In the famous “Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole, the lyrics read, “tiny tots with their eyes all aglow will find it hard to sleep tonight.” Truth be told, they aren’t the only ones having a tough time sleeping over the holidays. Did you know that sleep is most likely to suffer this time of year? For some this isn’t surprising because they feel stress and anxiety brought on by the physical, emotional, and financial demands of the season which unfortunately keep us up at night. 

But here is one gift most likely not on your radar: the gift of sleep. This holiday give your loved ones the gift that keeps on giving with these five ideas:

1. A new mattress


Our mattress is the number one factor (we have control over) that impacts our sleep quality. Yet, nearly 50% of Americans are sleeping on the wrong mattress for their body type and sleeping style. Another issue with mattresses interrupting sleep is the age. For a mattress to do its job properly (aka keep you asleep), you need to keep it updated. If your mattress is over 10-years old, it’s most likely hurting you more than helping you. The lumps and sags that form in your mattress overtime cause the aches and pains that keep you up at night.

2. New pillows


Just like the milk in the fridge, your pillow has an expiration date. Yet, most of us have been resting our head on the same pillow since childhood. You probably haven’t thought about it, but a pillow that old has absorbed quite a lot of body oil and dead skin cells. Yuck. 

Besides the sanitation factor, pillows lose their structure over time. This can aggravate issues with pain and stiffness, especially in the neck. Not to mention, depending on how you sleep, pillows can either promote or destroy proper spine alignment which plays a big role in low back pain management. So if your roomie, sibling or significant other has run their head rest ragged, add a pillow to your Christmas list.

3. A Linen Duvet
