Research says that 52% of men will experience ED at some point in their lives. Which begs the question… Why is it so hard to find a good ED med?!

I’ve been on a bit of a journey lately, trying to figure out which ED med works best for my body. And I figured why not document it along the way? Because with the amount of men experiencing ED, there’s no way I’m alone in this.

The Breakdown

Question #1 when comparing any two ED meds is, “What’s the actual difference between them?” For the Hims Hard Mints and Hello Cake ED Meds, it boils down to the ingredients and the prescription experience. 

Both try to hit that sweet spot between fast onset and lengthy duration, but they get there in different ways. Both use Tadalafil to help with the long-lasting bit. And while my dose from Hims was 0.5 mg more, I can’t say that I felt a difference on that end.

Where I did feel a difference was on the fast-acting side of things, Hims uses Vardenafil (the active ingredient in Levitra) while Hello Cake uses Sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra). Hello Cake’s meds are also dissolvable (rather than chewable) which means that they absorb into your bloodstream faster. For me, the Hello Cake meds kicked in way faster. Also, I found that I experienced some mild stomach discomfort while taking Hims, which didn’t happen with Hello Cake. 

Finally, there’s the actual prescription experience. Hims does fully customized dosages, and while that sounded nice at first, I ultimately found it to be pretty opaque. I like to have a sense of what I’m getting and I didn’t get to do that until later in the process than I would have liked with Hims. 

Hello Cake, on the other hand, is much more up front with their dosage options, likely because there’s only two of them. But I found their regular strength meds to be wonderfully effective. 

The Review – Hims Hard Mints

Overall rating: 6/10

If you’ve ever googled ED, hair loss, testosterone, or a whole bunch of other things, there’s a very good chance you’ve seen a Hims ad. In retrospect, I feel like I fell for the hype (or at least the onslaught) a bit when trying these guys.

The opaque prescription process, the actual effects of the meds, and the side effects all combined to create a pretty lackluster overall experience.

The Sign Up Process:

Had I been looking for an ecommerce option for treating hair loss, low testosterone, or a handful of other things in addition to ED, I think I would’ve liked Hims a lot more. As it was, they had a million options, but as I mentioned, very little actual info on dosage prior to getting prescribed.

The Price:

At $6/pill, Hims is actually priced very competitively. That being said, their bulk discounts are a little more limited (13% for 3 months and 25% for 5), so if you’re going to be ordering more than a one-month supply at a time, you can actually save more going with Hello Cake. 

The Experience:

Once I got my actual prescription, I learned that I was getting 8.5 mg of Vardenafil and 8.5 mg of Tadalafil. That’s a solid dose of Tadalafil (just a smidge higher than what I got with Hello Cake), but a little on the low end for the Vardenafil, which typically starts at 10 mg for newbies.

The mints are definitely fresh and minty which is a plus, but the actual experience on the meds was lacking. I found that my meds took about 30 minutes to kick in, though I’m not sure if that’s because of the pill itself or the lower dose of Vardenafil. 

Regardless, I did get hard, albeit not the rock hard / positively throbbing kind of erection I was hoping for. And as I mentioned above, I did experience some mild stomach discomfort that may be attributable to the Vardenafil. I didn’t experience it with Hello Cake’s meds, so I can definitely say it’s not the Sildenafil.

The Review – Hello Cake ED Meds

Overall rating: 9/10

Honestly, these meds kick ass. I got that “so hard it almost hurts, but in a good way” kind of erection that I hadn’t had for years. The meds also kicked in as fast as promised (seriously just 15 minutes) and kept me good to go for the full 36 hours.
