Buzzy brand Solawave broke the internet a couple years ago with the release of their 4-in-1 Skincare Wand – a powerful Red Light Therapy tool that promised to deliver glowing results in only a few minutes a day. I first became aware of the device after reading that both Reese Witherspoon and Sydney Sweeney had gotten red carpet-ready skin with Solawave.
But as much as all the celeb endorsements (there are frankly too many to list here) intrigued me, I’ve always been way more interested in what beauty experts are saying. Did dermatologists and estheticians approve of Solawave, too? Spoiler, they did.

Once Burned…
Of course, I was skeptical of everythingI read about Solawave. I’d tried SO many viral beauty products that promised to obliterate my specific skincare issues:
Fine lines (I’m in my mid-30s)
Dark spots (caused by too much time in the sun, sans SPF)
Under-eye bags (genetic)
Occasionally dull skin (resistant to literally every glow-enhancing skincare product)
And every time, the so-called “holy grails” turned out to be more like holy fails: ineffective, irritating, complicated to use, or just too expensive.
I wasn’t ready to get my heart broken again. So, despite all the persistent notifications blowing up my phone, I resolved to put Solawave out of my thoughts.

I clicked “Add to Cart” immediately. While I waited, I dug a bit deeper into the science of Solawave. I wanted to understand all of the features and why they were so beneficial.

Although Solawave sells their RRSW as a stand-alone product, I opted for the RRSW & Activating Serum Kit ($189) for the full experience. The RRSW is best used with a serum – any will do, but I thought I’d try their proprietary Renew Complex Activating Serum, as it’s specifically formulated to amplify the Wand’s results.
When my kit arrived, the first thing that caught my attention was how compact and portable the actual Wand was. Plus, it came with a cute little travel case, making it super convenient! With my sister’s wedding just weeks away, I loved the idea that I could toss the tool in my duffel and continue my skincare routine from a hotel room in New Hampshire.
But I’m getting ahead of myself… What was it like using the Wand?
This part is hard to put into words. The sensation is almost indescribable – warm, gentle, a little electric (in a soothing way, not like you stuck your finger in a socket). As I glided the Wand across every contour of my face – paying special attention to my crow’s feet, laugh lines, dark spots around my eyes, and puffiness – I felt a sense of calm. My thoughts literally slowed down.
I was smiling. Both at the delightful sensory feeling, and the knowledge that I was basically getting a spa-level experience similar to a laser treatment – for a tiny fraction of the price.
Let's go back a beat and break down the actual steps to using this tool. How do you Solawave?
Don't worry, it's extremely easy! First, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry. Next, apply your Serum, pressing the product into your skin. While your skin is still moist, turn on your Wand and glide it across your face in upward and outward motions. You can use the Wand on your entire face or just concentrate on specific areas you want to target. Solawave recommends starting with just 5 minutes a day. After you're done, apply moisturizer and continue with any beauty routine you like!
Smart Skincare
When you use the Wand, you'll notice it pauses every three minutes, letting you know it's time to tend to another part of your face. I appreciate smart little features like this, and the RRSW definitely feels like a high-end tech device just as much as a skincare product. (The timer feature is also helpful, lest you completely lose yourself while under Solawave’s spell and forget all of your earthly obligations.)
I also didn’t realize how crucial the water resistant feature was until I accidentally dropped my Wand in the toilet :( …. And then fished it out, gave it a rinse, and turned it right back on :) A true tale of tragedy and ultimate triumph!
It’s been about a month since I started using the Radiant Renewal Skincare Wand (I’m back to calling it by its full name, out of respect), and I’m genuinely in awe at how dewy and luminous my skin looks. What I’ve noticed:
My fine lines have all but disappeared.
My dark spots are much, much lighter.
My face looks way less puffy… dare I say, “snatched”?
I have had to use significantly less concealer!

The travel case feels a bit cheap for how luxe the Wand is
I personally didn’t love the Renew Complex Activating Serum that came in my kit – it dried too quickly on my skin. I swapped it out for a different hyaluronic acid serum
Because it’s made of metal, it starts out cool to the touch
