My son is taking basketball seriously this year. He just made varsity, and his goal is to have an impressive highlight reel at the end of the season to show potential college scouts.
To reward his commitment and help him succeed, I decided to get him EDGE Spray. It’s a grip-enhancer that you spray on your shoes to increase traction and prevent slipping on the court. This boosts performance and keeps you safer in the process – it’s a literal game-changer!
If you have a basketball player heading back to school, here are 6 reasons to check out EDGE:
Here’s a fun fact I just learned: those expensive basketball sneakers you buy your kid? They start losing traction the second they’re made. Oxidation and use are the two biggest killers of traction in rubber. It’s bad enough that lots of big NBA stars are playing in a new set of shoes every week just to maximize their grip.
EDGE uses a proprietary formula that helps fight that process by elasticizing the rubber in shoes’ outsoles, bringing that grippiness back (and even making it better!). Testing has shown that their spray increases grip by 25%, even on dusty courts! And all your kid has to do to get the effect is spray, wait 15 seconds for it to dry, and kick their shoes on the court a few times.
Honestly, when I first saw EDGE I kind of thought it would be a gimmick. It almost sounded too good to be true! But, digging a little deeper into the company, it’s clear that this is a methodically researched and developed product.
I found out that EDGE’s CEO is a materials scientist and that his formula works by literally changing the chemistry of the shoe rubber. They’ve gone through hundreds of tweaks and iterations to their formula, testing and retesting along the way to ensure that their spray is fast-drying and high-performing, plus they've worked with the EPA for years to ensure that it's environmentally friendly and completely safe for humans (and pets!) to be around.
There’s nothing more nerve-wracking as a parent than watching your kid do something that could result in them getting hurt. And sure, basketball is a far cry from football, but it still stresses me out! Especially after my son had a really bad ankle sprain a couple years ago.
Thankfully, EDGE has helped me get some of my confidence back. It’ll always be stressful watching my kid compete, but now I know that at the very least he won’t be sliding all over the court! And I’ve seen even more of that confidence reflected back in how he plays – he’s been cutting his way across the court more aggressively, hitting dramatic pull back jumpers, and just generally taking advantage of the fact that his opponents are often sliding around way more than he is.
Basketball shoes are expensive! And, as I mentioned earlier, they can start to lose traction fast. If your kid is playing almost every day, that translates to… a lot of new shoes.
EDGE is a way to hold onto your shoes longer and save more money. Because the spray acts directly on the rubber grip itself, it can actually help resurrect “gripless” shoes well past their sell-by date – you can get something like 50% more lifetime out of shoes with EDGE! That means we’ll likely only have to buy one pair of shoes this season, which I’m thrilled about.
The first question I asked myself after seeing EDGE being sold in 2oz bottles was, “How much do you need per use?” Thankfully, the answer is not very much! All your kid needs to do to get the full effect from the spray is mist the bottom of his shoe. One pump for the top of the sole, one for the bottom, and they’re good to go.
EDGE says that their 2oz bottles are good for 80 uses each, which means that their Back to School Pack pumps out a solid 160 uses. That’s easily a season plus worth of practices at just $0.31 per practice — officially cheaper than 3 months of Disney+ without ads or a 64oz Stanley tumbler (the things we do for our kids...)
How often do you get a total win with a teenager? I’m not saying my kid is a brat, but even the best of teens are still… teens. And that means that so often even gifts with the best of intentions just don’t land.
But as soon as I started explaining what EDGE was for, his eyes lit up. I got a huge hug. I got a sincere thank you. I got a TikTok! Ok, technically, the spray got a TikTok, but I’m counting it since it’s obviously not cool to thank your mom for something via social media. Regardless, this was one of those rare gifts that showed I was paying attention, engaged with his passions, and didn’t come off as “cringe.” That’s a win-win-win in my books.
It’s easy to forget how much work our kids put into sports. 5 days a week for hours each day, they’re out there trying their absolute hardest to be the best they can be, knowing that they’ve still got homework, chores, and regular life to attend to.
EDGE was the perfect way to tell my kid, “I see you, I support you, and I’m here to help you meet your goals.” Grab a 2-pack of EDGE (and take 28% off!) – it will hold them over for an entire season and level up their game significantly.
