To my sensitive-skinned companions out there: You are not alone.
Having reactions to the tiniest changes in your routine. Not being able to use any of your friends’ products because they contain even a whiff of scent. Inexplicably red, rashy skin. These are just a few of the many reasons we tread so carefully when it comes to skincare and bodycare.
Thankfully, we’re living in a golden era of products geared toward sensitive skin. I tried 3 of the top-rated sensitive skin body washes and am here to give you the rundown on each – what I love, what I hate, and what is actually worth spending money on. And if you need receipts on my qualifications, my dermatologist is my emergency contact.
Read on to overhaul your shower routine in the easiest way possible – your skin will thank you.
Aveeno — Skin Relief Fragrance-Free Body Wash – $12.48
The most budget-friendly of our picks lives in the iconic Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash. It’s formulated for dry, itchy skin, promising to be gentle yet effective – and I’m inclined to agree. The formula is free of sulfates, parabens, and soaps (fellow itchy queens know). I found that, after a couple weeks, my skin was hydrated and clean. But fair warning: their new formula is not truly fragrance-free and contains a potentially irritating scent, something I didn’t experience but that caused an issue for many die-hard Skin Relief loyalists.
Iota — Supervitamin Body Wash+ Soothing – $23
I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight the award-winning Supervitamin Body Wash+ Soothing from Iota. By filling in essential nutrient gaps, this wash promises to calm your skin while hydrating, using 15 superfood multivitamins, minerals, antioxidants and adaptogens like Chamomile Flower, Lotus Seed, and Reishi Mushroom – something I’ve never seen in a body wash before! The rich lather and non-stripping formula had me feeling like I was in a shower-based dream. And the results were rave-worthy – nourishing, hydrating, smooth, and clear as day. No irritation or redness to be seen here!
Necessaire — The Body Wash – $25
By incorporating luscious oils into their gel, Necessaire ensures that their body wash nourishes, softens, and balances. Its minimalist aesthetic underscores the effectiveness of this body wash – what you need, without any frills. I found it gentle and deeply nourishing, especially for those with eczema like me, and had no flare-ups for the duration I used it. However, the body wash offered nothing else (i.e. Iota with its collagen-boosting properties). For the price point, this was a bit disappointing.
My overall winner?
Gentle, soothing, effective – and best of all, benefits you can feel after just a couple uses. And it doesn’t hurt that the bottle itself is stunning. When I have guests over, I make it a point to put my Iota Body Wash out on display.
Plus, I’ve already gushed about it to the other sensitive-skinned people in my life (and even some with regular skin who just love a nice body wash), and have yet to hear a bad review.
It’s a treatment that I don’t mind spending a little extra money on, and my skin thanks me for it every single day.
In the market for other luxurious, skin-loving products? Iota has you covered. Here are some of their other best-sellers:
While Aveeno and Necessaire offer some great options, Iota is your savior in liquid form, and receives my stamp of approval. With face-grade actives, incredible soothing properties that calmed even my rosacea, and benefits that can’t be upstaged, it’s now a staple in my shower.
